just a coupla shotsss

That one we took at the flea market, in which my lovely pink samsonite 60s purse was (temporarily) laid to rest, and replaced with a sexy red plastic 60s bag that looks like a toolbox.
there's something magical about north beach at night..
These photos aren't in any particular order. And for a fashion blog I am doing a terrrrible job because I've mainly been wearing the same thing in every photo I've posted of myself. I like to blame this fact on my being in between houses during these photos.....

Beauty Blog, care of Lola Louise

so... whilst getting my hurr did by my very wonderful friend Kym at Glama-Rama! her haircut that she took before doing my hair, (I was late because I was distracted by shoes
which are amazing and from Aldo, and they're on saleeee ! Suzy has them in both black and white) suggested I start a "beauty blog" because I had lots of opinions on makeup and clothes and bra bra braaa

well ! as it turns out, SHE had opinions on EVERYTHING, I discussed how we could have been like "I like to go ice fishing in Peru on Thursdays" and she would have responded with something like "oh, I've been in a club for YEARS that does that"

anyway, I DO love beauty. and blogs. and here i
s our beautiful blog, so why not dedicate a day to talking beauty !

so, this post is about my two new favorite products!

Benefit's "They're Real" mascara

and "It's Potent" eye cream.

Both are by Benefit and both are amazing. Why, you ask? Well, I'll tell you.

For most of my life I have been a crazy mascara consumer due to the fact that my lashes stick straight out. Yes, I curl them. Yes, I should buy a fancier curler, but that isn't the point. I've tried most everything; from M.A.C. to Dior to assorted drug store brands to everything under the sun. My top contenders always being Badgal by benefit, Define-a-lash by Maybelline, and Lancome's Hypnose Drama WP(the lancome one didn't look AMAZING on me, but it looks AWESOME on Suzy, she looks like she has crazy doll lashes or false lashes [which people in the 50s called "brooms," according to random lady who came into my store today])

ANYWAY, I was pretty set on the Badgal-wagon, UNTIL.... They're Real came out. which happened only a couple weeks ago. The best thing about this mascara is that it CURLS the lashes. How, you ask? Well. I'm not one hundred percent sure. I'm thinking it is the brush, which looks a bit like a caterpillar, that catches each lash. EACH. but for reals. it curls. AYE-mazing.

Another issue I have with my face is I have these dark under-eye circles. which is a bummersauce. I had previously been using something by Origins that I can't remember now.. but whatevs. It's Potent rocked my wo
rld. The moment I put it on, I noticed it became brighter. Ingredients include: apple extract which helps to boost collagen, cocoa extract which gets the circulation going to fade dark circles, and a root called burnet, which soothes and depuffs.

and that's all for meow.

In Other News....

So, now that I actually figured out HOW to steal josh's photos I should be posting a lot more regularly. And.. yeah.

Also, Suzy is going by two names and Lola (moi) got a new job (that I really like !) and as such, we are your new (slightly self proclaimed) lingerie and make up specialists. and always vintage, because that's what we breathe.

so tell your friends, tell your family, tell your door man.

THE BOYS TWINS ARE BACK IN TOWN.

ps, i'll probably do another makeup favorites, as my tastes have changed a bit. (read: places reformulated their products making their lightest colors too dark for my complexion =[ )

you missed us !

alright my most darling readers, after months of hibernation, we are back and ready to rock. and as promised, there are a million photos. all thanks to the lovely, most joshy of all josh's www.flickr.com/papereatsrock !

so, suzy and lola (and josh) took many tiny trips around the bay area, outside of lil' ol SF, for several Wednesdays inna row... places included: petaluma, the ink wells, and others that I can't remember because it really has been awhile...

"

that one is specifically from petaluma. I, Lola, look scary. and I am wearing a pretty ridiculous argyle sweater that is in my give-away pile sitting in my hallway to be given away.

there it can be seen again. Suzy and I proceeded to follow a cat into the squishy grasslands of that front yard.
In Petaluma I picked up some pretty sweet 50s cat eyes... and we went somewhere else(to be honest i can't remember,) and wore them...
and sorry it was at that last moment in the copy-pasting that I realized I could change the size of the picture ;]
I think that one is my favorite...
the photo above is in front of my (now not so) new apartment. the scaffolding was decorated with an American flag. furreals.
thanks for checking back for us !

roses in her eyes

as an art fanatic, vintage fanatic, and lover of kitsch, it is only natural that i ended up here - in san francisco: adopted home of john waters, carol doda, and the proudest weirdos in the west. through my job as a shop-girl in a lingerie boutique (Agent Provocateur, for the curious), i am exposed to the seedy, glittering underbelly of the city - and it never ceases to amaze me. so it delighted me, but didn't surprise me, to find lola here amongst the lost & found- a girl with the same glint in her eyes, the same books on her shelf, the same heels in her closet.

we spent a recent afternoon with glasses of wine, making plans of vaudeville acts, sequins and top hats. Watched the semi-biographical movie The Dolly Sisters (see above photo, the one with the k-i-l-l-e-r maribou dressing gowns), with a DREAM WARDROBE that reminded me of - but i don't believe actually was - Edith Head's designs. We made an attempt at finger waves - a fail, by the way, with us learning to dilute the setting lotion much more next time. Rest assured a tutorial will be posted as soon as we have conquered the elusive finger wave! (ps, if you have any secrets, please pass them on!)

i've been thinking a lot about a new wardrobe, with spring poking it's nose out to tease san francisco this past week. this season will require: gloves, floaty gauzy tulle, neon pastels, punk band t-shirts, manic panic hair dye and - duh- lots of lipstick. inspirations include: debbie harry, the Fabulous Stains, vintage playboy, 1950's Las Vegas, burlesque. also, maybe growing out the hair?

my color palette for spring is derived straight from Tom Wolfe's description of the unique colorscape of mid-century Las Vegas, the strip at it's most plastic and most truly amazing:

" tangerine, broiling magenta, livid pink, incarnadine, fuchsia demure, congo ruby, methyl green, viridine, aquamarine, phenosafranine, incandescent orange, scarlet-fever purple, cyanic blue, tessellated bronze, hospital-fruit-basket orange."

(from The kandy-kolored tangering flake streamline baby)

can't you just see it! taste it!
literature is fashion is art is us, my friends.

cacoethes

Definition:

"An irresistible urge, mania."

Delicious, no?

So I applied for this job that I will probably never get because I have no actual experience in the world of writing/copywriting, but(by the suggestion of Suzy) I thought I would post what I wrote about my top five makeup products.

I honestly did not think it fair to only choose five products, so I chose five brands that are among my every day staples, and threw in a few more products, just for fun !

1. MAC cosmetics
~side note: not many peo
ple are aware that MAC is considered to be stage makeup, that iswhy it is so highly pigmented and thick…

--MAC is a brand that almost everyone and their

mom has now become a fan of. (the mother’s solely because this is where their daughter’s demanded they get their Homecoming and Prom makeup done from.) This alone, almost speaks for itself, but there are some drawbacks to the ever-popular brand, which I will conclude my MAC section with..

- I use MAC mainly for my eyes, fluidline in blacktrack:

lips,Russian Red (or Ruby Woo or really anything)

and brows. Eye Brows in Stud

Their lip colors are exquisite and beautifully pigmented.

They recently came out with a new product called Prolongwear Lipcreme, that is lipstick that will last you all night. Now, I am a bit iffy on the whole “your makeup will last forever and ever and ever andwatch as I take a sip of water, my lipstick didn’t even leave a mark!” (let me just throw in here that there is a touch of class, having lip prints on the glass) Those two-step long last lipsticks never work for me, as I always want to apply more color after the one step-two step process, but the lipstick just crumbles away. Leaving the lips to droop in an inverted u-shape(read:frown) However, there is only one step to the Prolongwear, and it goes on creamy, not sticky, and it really does last you all night.

- Although their vibrant colors for eyes and lips are amazing, you must remember that this is still considered stage makeup. As such, their face products are EXTREMELY HEAVY, which may cause your skin to break out.

2. :Origins
This is one of my all time favorite shops. Although not as edgy as MAC, Origins really holds its own. Their skin care line does what you wish that MAC could do. They really focus on the way a person’s face is made up, allo
wing them to create wonderful things that a face may need.

- I use Origins for

my nightly moisturizer "Look Alive"(which has been discontinued, of course,)

mconcealer(which I use as foundation,)

r

amazing ,powder

and any other skin problems I have at the time.

- Many a friend of mine has been turned on to Origins solely based on my testimonial and great fondness for them.

- In addition to having wonderful moisturizers, masks, toners, eye creams (you name it!) they too have makeup. Although not quite as bold as MAC, Origins has a variety of different shades of eye shadows, blushes, and lipsticks. If you are not accustomed to the audaciousness that MAC provides you, Origins is a great source for the day-to-day cosmetic. This isn’t to say that Origins products are for the prim office worker, they are simply a softer approach to the makeup world, perhaps even a nice place for someone to begin their quest into the world of cosmetics.

3. Makeup:Kryolan Professional
This is another brand that mostly specializes in makeup for Stage and Film, but their colors are a force to be reckoned with. This particular company I have a soft spot in my heart for, because I would speak to the company directly to place orders for the makeup that was needed at Idol Vintage, the vintage store I worked at for two years. They also have a store in San Francisco, which is convenient if you want to go in and test things out for yourself.

- I am a huge fan of Kryolan’s fake eyelashes, lash adhesive, and eye shadows. Their eyeshadows are a cream, so if you blend with a wet brush, a new look is created instantly. They even carry neon shades, which is very popular during the months prior to burning man.

4. Benefit Cosmetics:

Perhaps it is because their vibe totally jives with mine, given the slight 50s air that Benefit gives off, but I truly love the products they have to offer. Also their attention to eyebrows was what really drew me in, one of the things on myself to which I consider flaws fall under the category of EYEBROWS, something that Benefit really takes pride in. (note: I switch off between MAC’s eyebrow pencil and Benefit’s eyebrow pencil+setting gel)

- Some of my favorite new products of the year are Benefit’s Firmology

which is a toning and smoothing serum that I put on before I put on everything else, and their highbrow, which gives the perfect vintage touch to my brows. I also love posie tint (a cheek stain)used in union with high beam. That last one I can’t take full credit for, the woman, Liz, working the benefit counter turned my on to the luminous effect of these two powers combined.

5. Et Cetera:

So my runners up, include, but are not limited to:

- Bumble and Bumble PREP

is a product I can spray onto my hair in the morning, blow dry it, and viola! It has given my hair the perfect look that I had the night before.

- Juliette Hewett’s Cheekie cheek and lip shine in “Bette”

This product is really wonderful.

- Lola, by Marc Jacobs. My daily scent. Whatever she wants, she gets.

. Maitrisse -Perfume by Agent Provocateur Whenever Lola is feeling saucy.

- And last, but very certainly not least CETAPHIL face wash.

I used to be in love with Checks and Balances but was turned on to Cetaphil by my friend’s grandmother. Of course, her skin was perfect, and her secret was to always moisturize, and to use Cetaphil. Naturally, she was right. I whole hartedly believe that Cetaphil is the perfect facewash for all skin types.

ssorry this is such a long post, I don't know the html for a jump :)
